MONKEY NUTS QUESTION and strange noise
« on: March 02, 2014, 09:04:44 AM »
just replaced monkey nuts and still have a weird sound at low revs. that kinda tumbling rocks until everything tightens up and it smooths out. also at driving revs 4k-5k I hear a lot of racket from the right side of my bike. Its been doing it for some time and Im praying at 30000 miles it couldnt be a spun bearing or something

Look for any loose shielding on the bottom side, exhaust, brackets, etc.......

The other thing you might try is some seafoam or other cleanser in the oil to clean the starter sprague gear.

There isnt that much left on my bike if you havent seen my build yet. so I dont think its a loose bracket or anything. Its definitely coming from the right side  so could be starter sprague. I hear it only when Im driving in higher revs and a take my right knee off from hugging the gas tank, then I hear it from the right side of the engine/clutch/alternator area. Any other ideas?

Might be a long shot but I had a clacking sound from the alternator because of improper alternator install. The drive dogs weren't sitting in between the monkey nutz because at least one of the nutz had shifted when I slid the alternator in. It only occurred within a specific rpm range.

I could feel the vibration from the alternator by touch and confirmed acoustically with a stethoscope. You might try the stethoscope thing.
