K-bike rider in PA
« on: February 27, 2014, 11:05:21 AM »
I have recently acquired a 93 K75S w/ABS, only 19k mi. on odo, but it's been parked roadside in Brooklyn for ages.

ABS is non-functioning, rear brake pedal drops to the bottom when pressed, front brake rotor seems warped since it pulses when the front wheel spins. Lots of cosmetic issues, but otherwise seems to be sound.

I'm thinking of removing the ABS pumps and replacing the brake hoses to turn  the bike into a non-ABS bike.

Has anyone on this board done so?

Any pictorials of step-by-step proceedings?

This K75S will be my 5th K-bike ownership,

Previously I've had a 98 K12RS, which I rode from Philly to Key West in 27 hours:

87 K75T that I rode mostly 2-up w/my wife:

85 K100 prooject that I fixed up and sold to my good friend, he rode it for over 40k miles until it went flame-on:

Another 85 K100 that I tried fixing but to no avail, so I gave it away to clear room in my garage:

Hello, Tim Tyler has removed the ABS system, you could contact him.  perhaps he'll see this and reply.
There is more info on how to repair the ABS system than how to remove it.  Mostly you just need to run new brake lines straight to the calipers.  And yank the brain out from behind the seat.  Though I haven't done it myself yet, but plan to.

edit: I found a thread about pulling the ABS: http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=2681.0

Yes, I did it.

Basically you just rip out all the ABS pieces and then add a couple of new brake hoses.

Thanks for the info, will proceed with ABS system removal and shed some weight off the bike.
I don't like to use brakes anyway.

Brakes, who needs them, they only slow you down.
