New to BMW and need advice
« on: January 23, 2014, 10:52:33 AM »

Hi all new here and looking to get some help. Looking at a good condition cosmetically and mechanically 1991 K100RS with 136000kms on it, is that high? the guy wants $2000 CDN.
What should I be looking for and is that a fair price?
How are the K100RS for riding etc?
Riding a fully rebuilt 1987 ZX100A2 right now so I do realize the K will be different but comfort over speed wins at my age  :riding: :riding: :riding: :riding: :riding:
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Cheers Simon

from that photo it looks clean... if so... and... if everything works... its worth every penny... offer 1500 and see how it goes... may wiggle it for 1750...

plan on doing a spline lube... replacing all the fluids and possibly the tiors... perhaps the shock... and you will be set for lotts o yeeeeehaaaaa...

Just waiting to go trade my 1987 ZX1000 for the K. I'm trying to arrange a trailer to drop off and pick up but at -30 today and more snow forecast it could be a couple of days.
Any particular fluids and grease suggested.

Hello Simon,

Nice looking new ride.  Hope the trailer and snow all work out for you.

As you tour the site, you'll find the Liberry contains a wealth of advice to sort out the issues inherent to most new to you machines.  If this is your first K, you picked a winner.  a comfortable ride with a good riding position.

Enjoy!

"good condition cosmetically and mechanically 1991 K100RS"

I have a 1990 K100RS(16v) and found a "Harman chip"(130915773853:ebay) made my bike more enjoyable to ride:less vibes at my normal riding revs & smoother power delivery, not so sure on the power claims but mpg OK.I have had quicker bikes but none that would cover long distance at high speed as easily.
