I’ll try not to be redundant with some of the photos that have already been put up so far.
Here are some of my pics culled from my Galaxy S4 and Canon S90 that highlight some more of the shenanigans and moto-mayhem (with apologies for some of the picture quality – I’m still getting the hang of the new “smartphone” and the Canon is starting a slow, agonizing death spiral).

Day 1 – Friday 4 April 2014

All loaded up and ready to go for a 1230hrs departure….

I rolled out the 210 to the 118, off in Moorpark, and hopped over Balcom Canyon and S. Mountain Road into Santa Paula.
I stopped at the Chevron Supreme with Techron to top off the Brickus Turkus and grab a Peanut Butter Snickers for my tummy.

Just as I was ready to roll, I was accosted in the parking lot by M. Brane and Sprockethead, who had just completed a romp of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Our domicile for Friday evening – The Santa Paula Inn

Room #19

The NorCal contingent of hooligans arrive:
Dan (CRASH) and Roxanne (pawprint2104)

Tim Tyler (who schlepped all the way down from Olympia, WA)

Roxanne giving us the blow-by-blow on their “close encounter of the worst kind” on their way down the coast

We were joined by Kris (viffergyrl), and Alan (M. Brane), as the hooligans were unloading their gear and preparing for the evening’s festivities.

Starting on the first Friday of April, and continuing through October, the city of Santa Paula hosts a car show where the local homies break out their hoop-dees and show them off.

“Holy cow…check THIS out !!” says Dan

A nicely restored Mercury Montclair

Anyone remember “Grabber Orange” ??

Our choice for “fine dining” tonight, Garman’s Irish Pub in Santa Paula.
As it turns out, through a couple of Facebook PMs later on Saturday, this restaurant is owned by the brother of a member of another forum that we haunt, FastRicky…..NOW he tells us.

We have come to the point in our lives where we now eat our food cold as everyone is taking “food porn” pictures just as the goodies land on the table.
We must have been quite a source for amusement for some of the other patrons watching all the flashes going off at out table.

Roxanne must have said something really trashy to Kris….

And some live entertainment by a local quartet playing Irish minstrels and jigs, replete with some serious foot stomping dance.

Dinner is served…….
Sprocky and his tofu-chicken burgler

Kris had some seafood concoction if I remember correctly

I opted to go just about as “Un-Bovine” as I possibly could, just to wind up JO a little tighter !!
Bangers and Mash

Yes, we have turned into “those people”….

I can’t believe I ate the whole thing…

Someone ordered Bread Pudding for dessert…..yum !!

Hey lady, you’re getting too rambunctious for this place – you’re gonna have to dial it down a notch.

I’m not too rowdy….I’ll squish his little head !!

Alan and Dan trying (desperately) to remember just how many windows were in their old VW microbuses that they owned “back in the day”.

The last of the car show to go home….a sweet looking Studebaker

A little window-shopping by the girls…they were looking for a mascot for their upcoming “Pashnit Girly Ride”.
I distinctly remember hearing something about “boobs” in their conversation

A little boochee session in the lobby of the SPI

And checking the latest weather prognostications as there were rumors of snow at some of the higher elevations on our departure route

We had found out that Eaton was nearby having dinner so we went out back to await his arrival (and we were probably getting a little too rowdy for the lobby….

Nope….that’s not Eaton…it’s Tim

2130hrs and I opted to hit the hay….Dan said he heard Eaton’s bike roll down the driveway around 2230hrs.
I didn’t hear a thing, I was out…..

Tomorrow….the “official start” of Twisty Bovine III !!

Day 2 – Saturday 5 April 2014

With a “modified” route due to serious weather concerns on one leg of the departure route from Santa Paula (forecast of snow on Pine Mountain Summit) we “adjusted” our KSU time to 0730hrs.
We were all ready to rock by 0700hrs (including Eaton) but we were still missing Roxanne. She had set her alarm for 6:00 PM instead of 6:00AM….

As we headed north on Hwy 33 we saw dark clouds parked on top of the pass. O.K., so we’ll get a little damp…we’re not made of salt and won’t melt.
As we reached altitude, the weather went from alight mist to a heavy drizzle and the temps dropped to near freezing.
NOT a good thing to experience when one is (largely) wearing summer gear….
We sought refuge under the covered motorcycle parking at the Pistachio Store in Ventucopa and tried to dry and thaw out before venturing further.
We were already late to meet JO, MO, and Poach so……wtf.
We will probably be “off the deal” for next year because of this

Rollin’ into Taft (former home of viffergyrl) under dark, but dry, skies

Sometimes “accidental” shots come out kinda cool….definitely dark skies overhead

Rolled into McKittrick fashionably late but, at least, we were dry….and hungry !!
Time for their outstanding breakfast burritos at the McKittrick Market

Kinda hard to see in this pic but the Brickus Turkus got pretty mucky looking after that little jaunt through the pass

Time to go…

Westbound on Hwy 58 we head !!
As I was passing the Solar Farm on my left, I spied something out the corner of my eye to my right about a quarter to half mile down the road.
I was closing on it at 80+ and I had Tim Tyler a few hundred yards to my rear.
It darted across the road, froze still, and then looked back at me. Just as I got to within a couple of hundred feet of it (and banging down through all my gears), I realized that it was a Pronghorn Antelope (about 200+lbs of one !!).
It darted back across the road in front of me to the right shoulder where it stayed put, and gave me the stink-eye as I eased on past it at about 15mph.
I’ve seen a lot of stuff on my trips down the road but I’ve never seen a Pronghorn, especially in California !! (sorry, no picture…I was kinda busy )

Our obligatory “pit stop” on Hwy 58 to re-herd the cats and have a little “boochee (and bio for some of us) break”

Hijinx on Rossi’s Driveway before, during, and after the obligatory group photo

And here comes Le Duc (2WW)....

A “special guest appearance” was also made on this trip by Erik (1911) – JO’s "local road secret weapon"

Back to Hwy 58 and a short hop West down to Park Hill Road

What a difference a few hours make….sunny and hot now !!

I “attempted” a 360° panorama “stitch” shot from the top of Black Mountain Rd (where one can see all the way to the North side of the Carrizo Plain) but it didn’t turn out so hot – guess I should have read that part of my camera’s Owners Manual first….

We descended upon Santa Margarita, some of us on fumes, and the only game in town was Pintor’s Tires & Wheels where the only fuel available was Regular at $4.59/gal !!

Reminder and note to self: Winco water bottles are a LOT thinner than anyone else’s, they puncture easily, and DON’T leave your deerskin gloves in the top box anymore – put them in the tank bag where they belong.

JO and 1911 modifying our intended route once again…we were running late

We ended up opting to blast down the coast as our dinnertime reservation was drawing near.
Hightailing it down past Pismo Beach to Santa Maria was a “perfect SoCal kinda day” – blue skies, clear views, light traffic, no a-holes.

The kind of day that draws touristas from points east to permanent residency out here on the Left Coast.

Our arrival at the Candlewood Suites in Santa Maria, CA.
Tim Tyler was the smart one to check in first while we were all lollygagging outside.
He came back out to let us know that this is the first night “on the job” for the girl working the front desk.
According to Tim, she almost blew a gasket when Tim advised her that there were ELEVEN more of us right behind him.
She grabbed the phone and hunted down the night manager to assist her with all of us….poor girl – what a way to be broken in.

The “Goodies Cabinet” was reasonably well stocked with unreasonably priced munchies…

Spreckethaid founds himself some chicken finally !!

And a “treat” for JO !!

Gotta love JO’s socks….

It got to be nigh on 2200hrs and Kris turned into a pumpkin.
I wasn’t too far behind as I was beat as well, and I have NO idea how much later the rest of The Bovine Warriors stayed up…..it was time for night-night

Tomorrow….the last leg of Twisty Bovine III where we invade Jalama Beach in search of more Bovine and then scatter to the winds on our respective journeys home.

Day 3 – Sunday 6 April 2014

Up at the crack of dawn….I beat my alarm clock !!
Sunrise over Santa Maria and getting ready to take on a new day

Gotta love Poach’s morning attire

Jimmy Dean scrambled eggs with ham and cheez ala Roxanne – sorry, JO…no bovine in this breakfast.
It should be noted that Dan had previously called Roxanne on her cell to wake her up with his rendition of Shirley Temple’s “On the Good Ship Lollipop” and barked at her that she was already 30 minutes late for KSU.
I guess she tried to “buy” her way out of this transgression…..

Our morning departure via Bull Canyon Road after topping off at the Chevron Supreme with Techron on Donovan and Broadway in Santa Maria
and AFTER a return trip to the hotel to retrieve Roxanne’s precious teapot/cup….

Onward along Foxen Canyon Road

At some point along Foxen Canyon Road, a bunch of us came upon what appeared to be the body of a small beast, or child, laying in the roadway at a very high rate of speed.
We all managed to avoid it and Chris (poached) led us all into the next available turnout to collect ourselves.
Poach went back down the road to investigate what it really was laying out there.

Turns out that Kris (viffergyrl) had left her left saddlebag open and her heated jacket had blown out of the bag – unbeknownst to her.
Poach caught her at the next turn out and returned her jacket to her.

Tim Tyler wondering: “what will happen next on this crazy trip…?”
