K 1100 fork seal leak.
« on: November 26, 2013, 03:53:11 PM »
Wanted to say thanks for the responders on my introduction on the front porch page. I put the front wheel back on and used a feeler gauge while waiting for my seal mate. It seems to have worked incredibley well. They were leaking so bad it was running down the tubes and onto the brakes and wheels. I have not seen any leakeage since and I have ridden about 300 miles. knock on wood but saved me some time and labor.

Thanks for that.

I've also read that some old 35mm film will work too. It's thin and firm, and the gear tracks on the edges can help grab crud.

we were on a couple all dayers and my right seal started leaking pretty bad... i took a 20oz water bottle and cut a seal mate out of it... ran it around a few times and dried off the tubes real good and kept rolling... has not leaked since...

why give sealmate a few bucks... cause it works... as does film and flimsy clear plastic from a water bottle...

The little secrets that Motorcycle shops dont want you to know!  Set of seals collecting dust on the work bench. 1500 miles and its been dry. I actually used the leaking fork seals as a bargaining tool when I bought the bike and talked them down another $200. LOL
