Fuel tank and crankcase breather hose
« on: November 17, 2013, 08:53:12 PM »
Hi all,

When I removed my fuel tank (1996 K1100RS), there is a small hose that seems to be a breather hose.  It has a check valve.  It was connected to nothing (other than the fuel tank).  There was also a small hose connected to the top front of the crankcase.

Seems like these should be connected, so I did this and after a short ride a film of oil started coming form the left has side of gas tank cap.

So where should these hose be connected?

Thanks.

The front hole goes to the line with the check valve is for the automatic oil thinning device care of the Commie Airsucking Revolting Bastards  organization AKA CARB. Its suppose to recover vapors from the gas tank and send them through crank case vent to be burned. In reality if you over fill the tank and it burps raw fuel it dumps that raw fuel into your crank case. Most of use do the Air Recovery cup mod.

The rear hole is the drain around the gas cap if water gets around it when raining or washing it. Sounds like you got them reversed or if I read that right the hose to the crank case became disconnected from that check valve and you stuck it to the drain. The drain hose can drop down out of sight but should be there if you look.
