Light thunk in left foot peg when starting off
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:51:04 PM »
Hi all,

On my 1996 K1100R, sometimes when starting off from a stop I feel and hear a light thunk in the left foot peg.  I remember reading something about some of these K bikes having feature where the clutch releases the kick stand.  This comes to mind because the sound is seems kind of spring and hollow steel sounding.  Could be something to do with an exhaust heat shield.

Is there something typical I should be looking for?

Thanks

greetings...

the k75 has the retracting side stand... the k1100 does not...  the clunk could be the abs...

i will be in anaheim for a few months starting november 8th... we could go over to angels stadium and shake it down if you want...

I would also agree that it's probably the ABS doing a cycle test. The ABS2 system will do the cycle test when you 1st roll out after start up and then randomly on roll out from a stop. No real rhyme or reason to the extra cycle testing that I know of.

Thanks.  Seems likely it is the ABS.

johnny: thanks for the offer.  Once I get it rolling again I may take you up on it.  I am fixing the fork seals and getting new tires.
