Well crap!
« on: September 30, 2013, 12:51:14 AM »
So when I first picked up my brick, I notice oil, thinking its front seals, I ask anyway, how do you check the oil? He says he didn't know, but there's plenty in it.
well I finally get around to changing it, my catch pan is almost full and it isn't slowing down! I manage the drain plug just in the nick of time, get a second regular oil drain pan and fill it over 1/2 way, WTH!? I haven't measured it but probably 7-8 qts. there was a little oil on the valve cover by the spark plugs, and it did smoke, but only a minute or 2 when it was started (I have only idled it) but no telling what he did  :riding:. Although he thought the fuel filter was stopped up, he said it couldn't be ridden more that a mile or so, before it started sputtering out. Am I in for a major repair, or is there a chance I may be okay? Bike only has 26K miles

That guy is dumb as a rock.  There's a sight glass on the right side.

Should be fine. Replace the spark plugs. Put new oil in, ride it.

Any brick with 8 quarts of oil in it is bound to have other, um... anomalies.

I would go through the bike and check to make sure everything is tight and that there's fluid in all the right places.

Be careful.

Yeah I figured out the sight glass, thought it was bad, as I couldn't see anything but dark, duh  :dunno
Turns out it was in great working condition. I have the bike pretty much all disassembled, working my way towards the shaft and tranny splines. I went ahead and pulled the valve cover off to check valve clearance and tend to that leak. Thanks for the advice  :2thumbup:
