If you're new to K bikes then you might not understand why the name of this site is MOTOBRICK.com.

OK, the MOTO part is pretty easy to figure out.

BRICK:  When the first K bikes came out, many of the old BMW guard were not happy with BMW departing from the tried and true opposed twin cylinder engine design that had been the trademark of BMW for over five decades.  Therefore, they came up with pejorative nicknames for the K series bikes.  One of them was "K-whiner" for the sound the fuel pump made.  The other was "brick" due to horizontal in-line engine design and the relative heaviness of the bike.  Over time, however, as the popularity of K bikes grew this nickname was modified and adopted by K bike fans and K bikes became known as "flying bricks."

Now you know.

Yep that brick has been photoshoped alright. It should have FBC (Flying Brick Co) in the frog not LBC

Okay, I'm a n00b, too.  Not to riding, but to BMWs.  Always wanted one because my Opa back in Germany used to work on 'em and let me fiddle around in his shop down the street from where we lived.  Recently acquired a 1995 K1100LT with high mileage, from an older gent in Sarcoxie, MO.  Sent it to Gateway BMW in St Louis for its initial check-up, but it occurs to me I'll do as well to do some "shade tree mechanic-ing" at home, vice the long haul to the big city.

I've already read some of the General Maintenance info and browsed a couple other threads.  Very informative and just the right brand of humor.  Think I'll stay for the duration.

Let's get to know one another as the days roll by,

I'll definitely add more details about the bike as soon as I get the opportunity to handle her myself.  At present, she's with Gateway BMW for her initial once-over before I bring her home for the first time.  I bought "7 of 9" from an older gent in Sarcoxie and he let me know she needed some TLC in regards to a fuel pump.  He attempted heart surgery, and he's not a licensed physician.  The folks at the dealership are trying to resuscitate her, even as we post.

Once she's home, I'll post about the rides we take, even those where my wife comes along.  Odd to consider I'm refering to this as a threesome...
