89 K100RS ABS - brake light always on
« on: August 15, 2013, 05:32:09 PM »
Hi everyone I am new here and need some advice. I was told by a auto driver that my rear brake light was not working. So I got home and checked it out and sure enough it wasn`t working. I replaced both bulbs, running and brake and it  was then that I discovered that the brake light was always on. I did a quick look for a stuck pedal switch or a hand lever switch but did not see any. Any advice is appreciated.

Sorry for the confusion. The rear brake light is always on. Or stuck in the on position.

You have a switch at both brakes. There is also a bulb check circuit that should be lighting the red warning light on the dash till both brakes have been engaged.

Are you getting a bulb check light at start up?

If not I'd start by checking fuses because if your not getting the check light then you have a issue in the bulb check circuit. If you are getting the bulb check then the lever you activate that turns off the bulb check is not the bad circuits. Check out the other.

Also check your grounds from the battery and under the tank is the main ground for the harness that feeds the electrical components under the tank and the dash.

In the liebery Duck has an entry for each model bike and I think you will find a factory repair manual in PDF you can use to do some diagnostics.

Yes, too the bulb check at start up. Everything is normal, but instead of having to hit each brake to turn the lights off, the lights go out on thier own with out hitting the brakes, just by rolling a few feet.
ABS works fine. Brake light is always on.

There's multiple lights one set that blinks for the abs and would turn off when you roll a few feet if the abs is working.

There is a second red light between the Guages that is a brake light bulb check. Looks like a hazard light but its the brake check.

OK, that is working like it should.

That light also goes out when the ABS cancels. Goes out without touching either brake. :dunno2:

Uhhhh somebody confirm the 89 k100 works the same as my 95 K11. If it does then something is terribly wrong somewhere.

Edit: check the manual for the K75 in Liberry and its function is simular. It indicates when you start the bike it should be solid till both brakes are activated. Then it should blink with the ABS light till you roll a few feet then turn off.

If its blinking right off the bat there is a short or the bulb check logic circuit has an issue.

OK, been gone for a while.
With the bike on the centerstand I can start the bike and engage first gear. Both the ABS light and the triangular brake check light are flashing with the rear wheel turning. Hit both front and rear brakes and lights continue to blink. If I knock it off the centerstand and roll in reverse or forward the lights shut off. ABS will work brake light in rear is always on. So I think I am looking at the front brake switch. Where can I find the F/B switch?

you can find the front brake switch screwed to the right grip perch... tiny tiny screw on the back side holds the micro switch in there...
