« on: June 27, 2013, 03:12:53 AM »
Can anyone tell me where this part fits on the bike please. (T shaped foam infill ( K100RS / K100RT / LT 8 valve )).
I've see one on this link

I haven't worked on a 100, but looking at the shape it looks like the top of the "T" goes across the top of the air filter box from the throttle body side (L to R).

See if this picture helps any.

Thankyou very much , I can see my bike does not have this as shown but I picked this item up with some other bits I bought, so atleast I know where it goes.

This part is shown in the parts fiche for my bike as well, an '88 K75S. My bike does not have it, and I don't see where there would be clearance for it between the airbox and the frame.

It's different than on my 1100's but in your case could it possibly be that the top of the "T" sets between the top of the frame and the underside of the gas tank? I could guess that the vertical part fits between the filter box and the box that sets on top of the TB's.

There is clearance on the front facing side of the air box for this piece, basically behind the cooling fan.

i rip all that foam out... lets the moto breath... im thinking freeing up the airflow reduces the roast... simply gives the hot air more places to go instead of directly on the thigh...

I was thinking just the opposite, Johnny, that the foam redirects the hot radiator fan and keeps things behind it a little cooler.

i was getting the roast on the bug... i put on a johnny blanket and it mostly went away...

one day i pulled out all the foam and the roast was gone... so i took the johnny blanket off and the roast was still gone...

i could feel the hot air coming form everywhere around the engine area... butts not a directed blast before removing the foam...

after this revaluation... on the burd i pulled out all the foam... then insulated the underside of the tank and seat with foil backed foam and made a mylar johnny blanket that just runs the width of the tank from the steering head to the bung hole...

no roast... least hot its ever been... the air just flows...

Is johnny blanket the foil face insulation attached to the underside of the fuel tank, or is that something else designed to reduce heat transfer?

greetings westone...

it can be foil sided bubble wrap... thats what i used 1st... butts double reflective mylar at least 5mil thick does the same thing and its super thin...

take your tank and seat and side covers off off... get a 36" wide roll at the local dope growing shop...  cut a chunk off... tape the front the the steering head... put your tank on... put your seat on... trim it to fit as desired... put your side covers back on... thats all...
