Fork Oil Question
« on: June 27, 2013, 02:17:45 AM »
Now that my fork seal is not leaking I want to flush the front forks and put in new fork oil. I am considering 10W even though my bike came from the factory with lighter oil. BMW wants almost 40 bucks for the stuff. On top of that, I get have over a two hour drive and bridge toll to buy from a dealer.

Anyone have suggestions for something good that I can pick up locally and save the commute cost (I won't be taking my bike) and maybe a couple of bucks on the oil?

I buy BelRay high performance 10W fork oil from another bike dealer because they are close. Unless you are in a major hurry, you could have some shipped in to save you commuting cost, or if your work commute takes you close to another bike shop that's another option.

I had considered a different type of oil, but have stayed with oil that is at least intended for motorcycle forks.

Cool. I can get BelRay or Motul without any problems. I have the Showa forks. Anyone know how much oil I need per side?

Not sure your bike but I believe it's 400ml r and 350ml L for a fill.  400ml both if you have disassembled them completely.

greetings argent brick...

look here for quantities...

what i do is use is honda ss-8-10 fork oil... fill a measuring bucket with the proper quantity... suck it out of the measuring bucket with a meat injector n fill er up...

note... the meat injector has a slack jaw needle... i cut the end off straight so the juice goes straight in hole instead of squirting out the side...

Just drained BleRay 15w out of my forks and added much lighter weight oil 7,5 wt.  Depending on the brand and actual viscosity (since no standard exists) 10 weight may work fine.  Or, it will feel like you have solid suspension
