K75S 1990 Side stand too much lean?
« on: June 23, 2013, 11:10:54 AM »
A question for every one who has an K75S or no(S).

Does your side stand seem to be a bit short so the bike leans quite a bit to a point that sometimes it looks like it's going to fall over?

Mine does and it was this way since I first got my bike, should I change it, add some height or leave it, what is the pro and cons?

Why? I am kind of short and when the bike has a load it is hard for me to pick it up from the side stand(point), I ain't growing any taller that is for sure.

There's a #11 screw and bushing (#19?) in there that might need replacing if you can wiggle your side stand a lot.

Try just tightening the #11 screw first.

They all lean a little low though.

You can, and many other brickers have, add material to the bottom of your side stand foot.
The options of material are limitless, but what ever you decide on just make sure you evaluate for clearances when the stand is folded up.
Some have tried wood, machined aluminium, an actual "hockey puck", hardened plastic, etc.... you get the idea.

You might first want to check if the sleeve has worn causing the side stand to move further out.  To check simply put the bike on the center stand and then lower the side stand and try to move it perpendicular to the bike.  Another quick way to check is when you raise the side stand, look to see if it seats on the rubber cushion or hit the exhaust.
You can't help someone who doesn't want to hear the answer.

Thanks, I'll check the bolt and maybe add something to prop it up a little if is not the bolt.

I just fixed mine on my K1100 this past weekend. Mine was bent to the point it was missing the bumper and rubbing against the exhaust. If its hitting the rubber bumper square when up its most likely not bent . Excessive play from not being lubricated regularly is common. I used a ABS shim to get the slop out and plenty of grease. MUCH better now.
