Oil Sight Glass......
« on: June 01, 2013, 07:49:42 AM »
My '89 K75's sight glass is hazed to the point of being unusable.  Looking at the various how to's this seems easy enough to replace.  However, looking at BMW Max's parts fiche, i see all kings of notes concerning circlips and special BMW tools apparently for grinding out the old part.  WTF?

So the question is, is my old glass (doesn't appear to glass BTW...plastic sounding when thumped with my finger) easily replaceable?  Drill a hole in it, yank it out and press in the new one?

Also, since I'm here, Where does everyone order parts from?  Used Max and bike bandit.  Both did a good job for me, but the shipping costs are pretty high.  If I could find someone with free shipping, I'd probably order alot more small parts and pieces.

Thanks in advance, and thanks to all for the wealth of knowledge found here.  Have a nice riding/looking K75 now that was a $200 basket case 6 months ago and owe it all to the fine write ups found here.

"Installed dry. Early models may not utilize the clip due to a lack of groove in engine block."

Screw something into old one and pound new one in..............

Free shipping on small orders you will not find.  If I'm just ordering one small item I stop over at a local BMW dealer.  They always charge more but usually less than online price + shipping.  Last time I ordered online I ordered from the dealer in Illinois who offers us a 15% discount.  (Do a search for it, or I'll be back with a link).

Edit: here is that link:

It looks like the discount is now down to 12%.

As far as I know, we have no BMW dealer in Houston that carries anything in the way of parts.  They all order from BMW Max.

Just put in a 150 dollar order to countryside of IL two days ago. 150 Dollars and up gets you free shipping and the 15% off code worked for me. Check it out.
