Final drive - leak in boot
« on: May 24, 2013, 11:10:30 AM »
If there's a topic about just this; someone send me the link?

When I took the rubber boot off the front of the final drive (#14 below) there was a bit of oil that leaked out - i'd say maybe a tablespoon?   This is likely the first time it's been removed in 20k miles (since new).   Something to worry about ?  I read that, based on the fact that the swing arm inside was dry, it likely came from the forward seal of the rear drive.   Don't want that giving out - but having that puppy rebuilt isn't in the cards either right now.  Thoughts?

greetings chooter...

i would not worry about it... i would just check the innards of the swing and figger out if its coming from the gear box or the final drive... then crack that fill hole open on a regular basis to make sure i gotts the proper amount of juice in there...

the bugeye motobrick did that for 60,00 + miles... always a couple spoon fulls of juice in there butts never more...

look on the bright side.  if it holds oil inside, at least you don't have a torn boot.
