Starter Spinning/ not engaging
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:45:03 PM »
I had an issue with my ignition key not turning my lights on. Fixed that with the help of some members help, thank you.

While I was trying to get the lights on, it was suggested that my starter could be dirty. So I put it in gear and rolled it backwards to see if it would dislodge the debris. Did this several times with no luck. Finally took my starter apart to clean it & put it back together with minor issues. Now that it's all back together, after fixing the ignition switch, the start does spin but doesn't engage.

My question is does anyone think that rolling it backwards and popping the clutch has locked up my sprag gear? If not does anyone have an idea as to what the issue could be? I've never had any problems starting it until now. When the ignition switch failed she was running the best she ever has.

Thank you in advance for any input.

Roller coaster yesssssssssss except this one isn't much fun.
Yes I put the battery on a trickle charge now. But the starter is just spinning away the day when I hit the button. I'm going to try and push start it in a minute. Maybe it will fire up and magically fix my starter sprag,,,,,,,yea right...lol.

Ok I did in fact put the starter together backwards, making the starter spin backwards. Yes I own the idiot of the day award.  :hehehe
