'93 K1100RS paint# 670, Classic Black?
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:03:19 AM »
I need to gear up to do some painting on my K. The label under the seat gives a paint code 670.  When I checked a web based bike paint house, they just use the year and model, and call that color "Classic Black"
Does that sound right?  The paint is metallic, and dark, but does not look simply Black to me, as it has a Green shade to it in the right light.  Is that Classic Black?  Anyone have a recommended supplier?

Same as mine. The 870 is not the paint code, but more than that. The actual paint code is 162 if my memory serves me correctly.
It is classic black and has a slight green hint to it. It comes in a pack as it is the paint and then a varnish to make it gloss. Any good car body shop should be able to mix you some up. If you google "BMW paint 162" you wil even find it on ebay and amazon.

Thanks for the reply, I will try that 162 search.  BTW, it was 670, not 870 on my bike, but it sounds like you have the right color in mine.  It is hard to describe to someone that has not seen it them self.

Yes it is 670 on my bike too, just that either my fingers or my keyboard did not want to type that! The paint is still 162 though and don't let my fingers tell you anything else.

I just painted my whole k1100lt black, from gray.
Literally, I just finished 30 minutes ago. I am going to shower and go for a ride now.

I went with a custom color, took a long time to choose it, and learned quite a bit along the way. Drop me a line if you would like to discuss what I learned.

Take a closer look and you'll see that it has both green and purple in it.

I'm going to have to believe you on the Purple !!  My wife says I'm color blind anyhow.  It's hard enough to get people to see the green,........  and now Purple?  Hah, they were really trying for something special!

Have just seen your posts, albeit a few years further down the track.

So, the paint code displayed under the seat of mine is 670, and yes, mine does have a green tint to it. The 162 is the Paint Code and 670 is the Scheme Code: http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/paintcodes/blacks.htm. I am looking at having mine resprayed. What code(s) does my spray painter order?

Any helpers out there.

Thanks,

Wal.
