Hi,
As I am waiting on my '88 K75S to arrive, I'm shopping for a new helmet. Helmets have improved significantly since the last time I bought one, and the average cost of one reflects that. Initially I intended to buy from my local BMW shop to support the local guy. From what I had seen I could save ~$30 buying online and I was willing to forgo that. Then, as I narrowed my choices down to 2 helmets, I found that "motorcycle gear.com" had them for $60 & $100 less than list, with free shipping. Suddenly my support for the local guy is being sorely tested. He may have to get by with the service and parts business I bring him during my ownership of this bike.

Does anyone who has done business with "motorcycle gear.com" have an opinion they'd like to share? I have no experience with them. I'm considering talking to the local dealer again. If he could make an effort to meet me halfway on the price that would be enough to take my business there, but I haven't gotten the impression from them that they feel the need to go that far. They do a good business in the bikes themselves, and service.

They used to be NewEnough until a year or two ago.  Very reputable and easy to deal with.  I have bought gear there off and on for years with zero issues.

I've bought a fair amount of stuff from them over the years.  They have a good reputation and good, responsive customer service.

If you're buying a helmet and are in between sizes then buy both sizes and send the one that doesn't fit back.  I've done that with jackets there.

Your local guy may be willing to negotiate the price some.
Does the local guy have both helmets you are interested in? The fit differences between helmets is subtle, and the real way to tell the difference is to wear them for 15 or 20 minutes. Easy to do in a shop, but really hard on a website.
If you factor in getting the fit just right, the price difference may not be all that much.
