K100rs knee protectors rehab?
«
on:
January 18, 2013, 04:22:03 AM »
Was looking at the knee protectors on my bike and noticed that the weather strip/rubber anti-scuff padding that presses up against the feul tank are cracking/dry rotting.
Any suggestions on:
A) The best way to remove the old strips?
B) What would be the best replacement material?
And
C) Where to procure such?
Was thinking just some 3m weather strip might work but unsure how it would look. Preference would be factory style strips.
Thanks,

I used body side moulding from a Mazda Rx-7 and some 2 way tape.
It's about 1/2 in thick and acts as a insulator from the heat of the tank.
It's been on my bike for 2 1/2 years now.
I don't get blister on my thighs anymore on my Calif. hot summer trips.
Cost was nothing.

Can't do pictures.

Won't see or ride it till mid February.

Gen 1, 2 or 3 RX-7?
(I've owned a few of those too.)

1st Gen.
The 1st. Gen had 2 differint body moulding.
You want the later thicker 81-85 mouldings.
Use the moulding between rear fender and door.
It followed the contour of the tank pretty well.

WTF? At least in the US, the RX-7 didn't come out until 1988. I had an 89 RX that had shitloads of torque and was a hoot to drive at speed.
But my favorite has always been my 89 'vert - on my, what a car to haul ass in.....
