K75 fairing removal for valve adjustment
« on: January 16, 2013, 06:36:40 PM »
I am a newbie to the K75 and am wondering how to remove the left side of the fairing so I can check the valve clearances. I just bought the bike and it has 60,000 miles. Thanks. Pictures would be excellent too

If it is an S, you only have to remove the scoop.

I see you have an RT.  If it's like my 1995 RT, you are looking at:
1.  Remove knee pad: 2 screws on top (in the cubby compartment) and one long screw down low.
2.  Remove cubby compartment:  2 screws towards the front.  You already removed the two rear screws in step 1.
3.  Now you can get to removing the lower fairing:
  a.  2 bolts (10mm?) - 1 is low, the other is midway up.
  b.  3 screws holding the top fairing to the lower fairing.
  c.  2 screws holding the front fairing to the radiator shroud.  These are easy to miss seeing the first time you try removing the fairing.  Turn the front wheel and look backwards and up.  A stubby phillips is quite useful on them.
As usual, the trick is to keep track of the various screws/bolts the first time you attempt it.  Relying upon memory for reassembly doesn't always work too well for me.  Good luck and keep in mind that after the 5th or 6th time, it won't seem too bad doing the removal and reassembly.

K75RT K100RT K100LT K1100LT fairing removal - includes radio removal *with pics* (Now with printable PDF attached)

If you're checking the valves then do not exceed the factory spec torque for the valve cover bolts when putting the cover back on.  They are "shoulder bolts" and will strip if you do.

And you won't have to take off the whole fairing to check and adjust the valves.  Just the left lowers and the pocket.

Follow the link I posted above.  Plenty of pictures there.

To restate what Wayne reminded you earlier - you are only dealing with removing the lower left fairing (and knee pad) to accomplish what you need to do.  No need to remove the upper portions, radiator or windshield, as well as the entire right side.  Refer to my notes, Ducks comprehensive  pictures and instructions, and you will discover how realitively easy it is to do.
