Alternative rear shock '91 K75S - UK based
« on: January 03, 2013, 09:02:47 AM »
Hi everyone and Happy New Year,
My '91 K75S rear shock is done - 79k so no surprise. Can anyone suggest what make of shock I should go for. Genuine BMW is about £300, aftermarket seem to be about £250+ but information on them and their suitability seem a bit sketchy. Anybody changed one (No doubt!) and if so what did you go for? Finally, I'm UK based (Northern Ireland).
Thanks in advance

Hi, I have installed a RAM shock on my '87 K75.  Prior to this, the PO had a shorter aftermarket shock of unknown pedigree attached.  It was about 3/4" shorter than the RAM and put the seating position at a height that allowed me to comfortably place both feet on the ground at a traffic light.  The downside was that the bike was precariously upright when placed on the sidestand.  The RAM raises the seating position to the point that it is not as comfortable for me to place both feet on the ground at a traffic light (however, one footed is just fine). It solved the precarious lean problem, which makes it a compromise solution.  I love the feel and response of the RAM as it make the bike planted in the corners.  At this moment, the K75 is undergoing a transformation whereby I am swapping the rear-end for a Paralever from a K1100LT.  This driveline will be more compatible with the length of the RAM, and I am expecting the seating position to lower slightly relative to the Monolever setup.

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Highly recommend the Realm Engineering shock. I had one in my old 8v RS and removed it to put it in a 16v RS. I only just unloaded it last week. PM me if you want any more info on it. PS...i'm from Bangor originally myself.
