Broken lower shock stud k75

Bought my K75RT a few weeks ago and rode it home 100 miles at 75 mph. The bike has not been ridden since then due to weather. Today I started to do the spline lube and looked down and Noticed that bolt was loose for my shock. Upon further inspection I noticed that the shock stud was broke. Pulled away shock and found out that the stud is broke off in the final drive unit. I am taking it to a machine shop in the morning, hope this doesn't turn out to be an unreliable machine

Machinist got broke stud out. Cut off 8.8 M12 bolt and I am good to go.

I bet someone over torqued the bejeeazees out of that poor bolt.  :eek2: Lucky you found it when you did

I'd guess the threads would strip before you could overtorque it enough to weaken it to the point where it would shear under normal riding conditions.

Or maybe a PO replaced it with a weaker one?

Or maybe it was just bad steel....

Who knows?

Anyhow, I wouldn't let this one anomaly skew your perception on K bikes' reliability.

Not that unusual...in another forum this have happened to a few of the members,
some while driving  :yow.

Crappy roads.

Pot holes sooo big, you need to put your lights on just to find your way out of them!
