K75S Oil on the Engine

I rode the bike for about two weeks, then pulled the engine scoop off in order to put a jack under the engine so we could lube the clutch splines. That is when we noticed that the lower portion of the right-hand side of the engine, the side with the oil sight glass, is covered in engine oil. The portion of the outside of the engine above that area does not have oil on it. I don't think it is coming out of the sight glass, the oil is all over that panel.

Any ideas where to start replacing parts? Maybe I need to replace the gasket around the crank case cover?

I also plan to check the valves and sync the throttle bodies. I bought the value tools, and I have a manometer. Are there replacement parts (gaskets, etc.) that I should buy ahead of time? Should I plan to replace the spark plugs?

Hard to say about the oil.  Could be years of accumulated oil mist blown around from anywhere.  Mine pretty much covers the inside of the belly fairing with a gooey sludge.  Clean it off good and check for leaks, maybe leave the belly fairing off for a while.  Obvious places are the weep hole under the water/oil pump, the oil pressure sensor, and possibly the rubber grommets that hold the crankcase & valve covers against the shouldered bolts.  If they get hard the cover may loosen enough to mist oil.  Other than that you shouldn't need any parts for a valve adjustment (aside from shims) unless someone used adhesive on the valve cover gaskets previously & messed them up.  If the history is unknown, new plugs can't hurt anything.

Yes, history is unknown, other than the previous owner rode it for 600 miles and then parked it for most of the last two years. He bought it for his wife but it was too tall for her.

When i bought the bike, the engine scoop had about a four-inch wide strip of oil and grime running down the center. I took it apart and cleaned every bit of black goo off of it. After two weeks of riding, black oil was collecting again. I like the idea of taking the scoop off, then I can see any obvious drips onto the concrete floor when it is parked.
