cold key touchy
« on: December 14, 2012, 08:28:02 AM »
Ocelot is a 1990 K75C... Don't argue with me, she was built in 1990, and she is a C.

Four times now, Ocelot's key has convinced itself that it must be off, when in fact, she was under weigh. Each time was fairly early into a commuter trip. Each time it was cold. Four times ain't much of a sample. But here's each four:

  • I Played handball at the Y. Came out two hours later, maybe 34 degrees, Ocelot hit the bricks just fine. At the end of the drive all her dash lights and her headlight flicked off. Everything came back on before I could figure out what the heck. When stuff flicked back on, I needed to squeeze her brakesd again to get rid of the red triangle.
  • Yesterday on the way to work, 31 degrees, her lights flicked off about a quarter mile down the road. Soon as I touched her key, they came back on. I fired her up and all was fine the rest of the commute.
  • Yesterday, on the way to the post office, same deal: about a quarter mile down the road, soon as I turned the key just a touch counter-clockwise, hit the starter, everything aces.
  • The latest was this morning. 27 degrees, we went a quarter mile, her things blinked off, I nudged her key left, hit her starter, all good the rest of the way.

What's up with this? Hit her ignition with de-icer you think? Some way to take it apart and overhaul it? What commonly goes wrong with these?

TIA
