LED driving lights
« on: November 27, 2012, 10:50:00 AM »
I've decided to hold off buying more parts for my bike until I've installed the ones I've already got (Thanks Duck!!!). But, I've done some research and thought I should share it before it gets stale. Attached is a spreadsheet summary of the LED lights I've been looking at.

Right now, I'm just barely restraining myself from snagging the Optimus Prime lights before the price goes up. Lots more light and no more power than many of the products out there. Was thinking of wiring into a a high beam relay (yet to be installed). Considering the focus, they'd probably hurt oncoming drivers if not dimmed. Based on the chart on the Twisted Throttle site, I think they'll be the lamp used in their yet to be delivered Denali DX version.

You might want to consider these too - 800 lumens and $140 a pair:

One nice thing about these is that they come with three different interchangeable lenses: Eliptical, 20 degree spot and flood so you could experiment to see what works best for you.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Tom

I did a review of the Denali LED's that I put on my bike a little over a year ago...very happy with them.

Crapdealerbob,

I saw your review, and it added grist to my mill. It was great. Thanks.

One of the "features" of the Denali/VisionX is the built-in pulse width modulator, to drive the LED at less than 100% and for thermal management. I'm not sure its worth the upcharge to the lights Frankenduck noted above, which look to be about the same as the D1. On the downside, I'm not sure how the PWM of the lamp would work with the Skene or Kisan controllers, which probably use the same technology. What happens when you put a PWM in series with a PWM? I've got no idea.

Is anyone running Optimus Round LED's (Part #: 9141343)?   If so, any feedback?

I'm running these guys on both of my K's.  They kick ass.  Like looking at a welder arc.

Couldn't find that part number on Cyclops' site, but I just purchased a set of Long Range Optimus LED Auxiliary light Round (10/20 degree set w/Skene dimmable harness & Amber wide beam filters).

Will definitely post my findings once installed.

There is a crowd out there somewhere that sell a small harness that wires up the blinker cancel switch so that when you hold it down, the spotlights switch on or off. The spotlights, etc are wired to be on with the high beam, but if you want to revert to just high beam, you press and hold the blinker cancel switch. Beaut idea, no extra switches and you don't have to let go of the grips. Who makes and sells it? Farked if I can remember!
