What are the machined holes in the upper triple tree?
« on: November 25, 2012, 05:13:50 PM »
Hi,

Just of interest, what is the purpose of the large machined hole with cast tabs and the two smaller machined holes either side (see the picture below) on a K1100 upper triple tree?

I've checked online pictures and RealOEM parts fiche but there is nothing I've seen which mounts to that part.  The only purpose that comes to my mind is a cable through-way. Thanks for enlightening me.

It also works as a steering lock instead of that stupid hard to find lock the K100/75 has. You know the one very few people use and some don't even know it's there.

Meh, a lot of people don't know the steering lock is there or how to use on the 4V bikes either. :laugh
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Or that the steering lock shuts down some electrical circuits as well on a 4v (but I never knew my 2v had one)

Yep on the steering head tube on the left hand side, 1" round and about the same length with a plastic cap.
