alt light and abs lights
« on: November 14, 2012, 03:23:18 AM »
HI. New to forum. Just got used 80 000km K1100LT 1997 ABS model registered today. Hooray! I like it very much. The only glitch is with idiot lights. ABS seems to work. I can't lock it up, but also cannot get any lights on from ABS switch on dash, nor any audible warnings on start up. Also, no Alt light on start up.

I found a loose eartch connection on the Ignition Control Module under seat. Extended wire, new connector and now have temp guage and idiot light at start up, but still the above probs. Should I assume bulbs? The only manual I have seems to be for ABS one and talks about flashing lights and beeping by ABS at startup. Mine does none of this. It is a silent achiever.

Would like everything working as it should. Wrapped in the forum. Looking forward to gaining the wisdom of the elders on a bike worth the time. Thanks for any ideas.

Just a quick reply here, it sounds like either the lamps are bad/missing or you have a bad connections.
Check the plug connector at the ABS controller, it sets behind the ign coils mounted to the side of the pump assy.
Check the plug at the back of the inst cluster. Make sure that both are seated real good, or pull them and re-seat them to see what happens.

What manual are you looking at?  The only thing that beeps on a K1100LT is the horn.

What do you expect the ABS switch to do?

The charging indicator lamp should be on when you turn the bike on but haven't started it yet,
