Resetting ECU / FI computers
« on: October 16, 2012, 11:01:31 AM »
A BMW friend suggested that it is possible to reset the ECU  and FI  after I had the injectors cleaned.  He claimed that the unit doesn't register the improved flow and will run too rich.  He aid to reset the unit run the motor until the rev limiter kicks in and hold it there for 10 - 15 seconds.  He suggested using first gear to achieve this feat.   Is this plausible?

Bad idea. You should have your friend do it to his bike first. :P

K75 fuel injection is very simplistic. There is no reset on it, period. Nothing changes on it. That's why it is fairly reliable, but if something is off (IE: PCV hose broken) performance will suffer, as there is no oxygen sensor to correct the mixture.

What that would do is an "Italian Tuneup" which can be achieved by riding like you stole it for a bit.

Cleaning the injectors improves more than the flow. It improves the spray (a lot). This makes the engine use the fuel it gets more efficiently.

The L-Jetronic is an analog device and doesn't "reset."

No harm in bouncing a K75 off of the rev limiter (done it many times) but it won't make a difference.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
