Because I had a front u joint failure last week on the K1100RS at 80k, I've sourced a driveshaft from an RS with 30k. It's being shipped to me. A new shaft from BMW at $700 plus wasn't an option.
Questions:
* Has anyone found a source or procedure for removing the "lube for life" staked in place u joints and replacing them? I know that a company called Rockford makes u joints that are designed to replace staked u joints but I don't know if they offer a part that's the right size. All the applications they list on their site are automobile based.
* Does anyone know of a way to just remove and disassemble the u joint for cleaning/inspection/regreasing?
What I don't want is to get the new driveshaft in and have this happen again in a month.
Thanks,
Charlie
