Roundels
« on: September 01, 2012, 02:06:53 AM »
Anyone know the size and part numbers of the roundels needed for the tank and the rear cowling? One of my roundels is not in very good shape
(the rear one) and I am not crazy about replacing it with another standard unit. The newer bikes come with a curved roundel that I think would look very cool on a classic K bike.  Some one used to make a nice replacement that is enameled and fired. Anyone know about that?

Wmax was saying a while ago that some of the car ones are the same diameter but have a more 3D look to them and as usual I cant find the thread.

The tank roundels are 70mm diameter.  The rear cowling roundel is 57mm.  Tons of information and part numbers in this link:
http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/roundel.htm

S. Meyer in Germany sells roundels as does Bob's BMW. S. Meyer has Ebay presence but I can't find the user just now.  I ended up purchasing my replacement roundels from them. Most any BMW automobile dealer and Motoradd outlet in the US can get the roundels.  I found this company sells roundels and were pleasant to deal with -- Motor West Inc. · 3211 W. Senator Ave. · Milwaukee, WI 53216 · Phone: 414-875-8787 · Fax: 414-875-8791

When I was researching for my replacements, I found "36 13 2 225 190" 1987 325is Hub Cap Emblem - BMW Roundel - 70 mm - With Backing  was a nice 3D roundel for the tank.  An alternative was "36 13 1 181 079"  Wheel Emblem - BMW Roundel - 70mm Diameter Convex - Self Adhesive . That one is more like what the K-bike had originally.

As for the rear cowling,  51-14-8-164-924  a Trunk emblem from a BMW 318ic, 323ic, 325ic, 328ic 92 will work.  They have been for sale http://www.hdrogers.com/bmw2.html.

I bought a BMW #361311810800 roundel to go on mine with some other stuff I was getting from eeuroparts (car stuff).
It's a self-adhesive 65mm wheel emblem. It's slighty larger than the original tail emblem but looks fine in place, I put it right over the original.
It was $6.90

Be careful running a 22L top case as even the regular one can get scratched if you're not careful.

I wonder, if I use a nice domed roundel, does that mean I can't use my top case?

Got me.  One way to find out.  It's not when it's mounted that scratches it.  Its when you push down on the mounting post to twist and lock it.  I have a 2" square piece of blue camping pad foam that I put over the roundel to protect it.

I don't have a top case, so no worries for me, but it's good to know.

I think what I want is the hard fired enamel roundels that look like the stock ones except just a little nicer. The motorsport roundel is made that way.

I just need to find a stock number.

Try any of these URLs.  Cloisonne is the process that is used to produce those enamel fired emblems.  Be prepared to spend $40 or so per emblem.

Search Ebay for BMW badges.  You'll find a couple of sizes, and at a great price.   Try them,  you'll like them.

I bought some off ebay, they were shipped from China and were super cheap, about $8 shipped for 4. I haven't installed them yet, but they look better than the flaking originals. here is the item #

San Jose BMW sells enamel roundels with the BMW Motorsports Roundel for $20. You need two 70mm for the tank and one 60mm for the tail cowl.

https://sjbmw-parts.myshopify.com/products/enamel-emblem-70mm

"3-D" 70mm tank roundels with a raised outer rim and convex shape are available from BMW - part 51142328269. Current BMW price is $39.15 each vs $30.73 for the flat ones used on classic Ks - part 46637686746

Ebay is pretty good at keeping Chicom knockoffs from being sold these days.

Was there originally a roundel on the rear wheel hub cap on a 1985 K100RT?

I've seen some BMW's (bricks, air and oil -heads) with roundels on the rear hub cap, which look nice.

No, not from the factory. But owners would add those.

Some of the K75 models came with a black plastic roundel plug the fit in the center hole. It wasn't a full hub cap, it just filled the center hole.
