new tires
« on: August 31, 2012, 12:22:34 AM »
I am going to buy new tires for my 1990 K75.  I am considering getting either Pirelli Sport Demons or Bridgestone BT45s.  I live in Vermont, which means some pretty nice roads with a nice mixture of frost heaves, pot holes and stretches of dirt thrown in to keep you from getting bored.  Wet grip is important to me as I ride pretty much everyday there isn't snow on the road.  Any thoughts?

I purchased my K75 with a like new front tire and a brand new rear tire. Both are Bridgestone BT45s and I have been very happy with them.
FWIW, the last owner lives in the mountains with twisty roads and lots of rain. He swears by them.

I'm running the Bridgestones on my Moto Guzzi and I really like them.  Been using them for a good few years now.  If memory serves me correct, I can squeeze @8-10k out of the rear, and maybe 15k or so for the front.  I also like the fact that they are reasonably priced @$100(?).

I just started using the Bridgestone Spitfires and my reaction so far is "Meh".

Metzeler Lasertecs.

I don't feel a difference either way yet. Maybe the Spitfire front does a better job on grooves.

I put spitfires on last year, price was the biggest factor ($110 for the pair)  They don't seem to have any bad traits, but me and my bike are waaaaay to old to push 'em too hard

Yeah where?  My last pair of BT-45 were $186 and I thought that was good.  Only lasted 5500, but hey I corner carve a little.  Got a set of Metzlers in teh shop, ready and waiting.  But I did like the BT-45.

Wow, it seems like just about everyone really likes/uses Bridgestones, so being a contrary Vermonter, I am gonna give the Pirellis a shot  :bmwsmile

Y'all are talking about two different tires. The Spitfire is the cheaper of the two, the BT45 is a more expensive tire. I put a BT45 on the back of my K75S, and I really like it. It has a wider, flatter profile than the Metz and so I don't get that "falling" feeling going into a turn anymore. I am still running a Metz Lasertec on the front,  no real beef with it.

Had BT 45's front and rear. Wore out the rear at ~3k. A lot of those were high load, high speed, high temp miles in the desert. Swapped it for a Bridgestone spitfire in Denver. The front is still okay at ~7 k, but getting some cupping.

I'm a huge fan of Bridgestone S11 tires; been so for many years.  I'm no hotshoe and I appreciate these tires are a good balance between performance and economy.  They stick predictably, are not expensive and they last a long time on my bikes.
