electrical problems
« on: August 10, 2012, 07:01:24 PM »
Hi,

I'm having an electrical problem. It runs no problem, but many items aren't powering up.

not powering up are, windshield, horn, cooling fan, headlight, and the turn signals not working properly.

I found an article on the starter, I removed it disassembled it and cleaned to commutator. The brushes seem OK. I tested it before reinstalling it with jumper cables and the battery. no problem. I reinstalled it, it turns the motor over freely.

also I cleaned the ignition switch by spraying contact cleaner down the key hole.

This problem just happened yesterday.

Any thoughts?????

thanks, in advance.

Check that fuse 7 is ok, don't just look at it test it with a meter. Fuses can be cactus and still look ok and make sure the fuse holder is clean and no corosion.
Second thoughts check all the fuses or replace them with new.

The key tumbler and switch are separate components. If you want to clean out the ignition switch you'll have to remove it from the bike and disassemble it :(

Not a hard job though.

Check the actual load shed relay.
