K75 Odometer Knob Won't stay on?
« on: July 12, 2012, 08:54:07 AM »
I took the dash apart for a look see and after putting it back together the
odometer knob doesn't stay on the shaft. Is there a trick or did I break something?

FYI: You don't need to remove the odometer knob to remove the "guts" from the instrument cluster.  All you need to do is pull it out to the extent of it's spring.  There's a cutout in the speedo faceplate for it to pass through.

If it you pulled it all of the way out and now it won't stay back in then one of two things occurred:

a) You popped off the E-cilp, washer and spring that hold it on.

b) You broke off the tabs that hold it into the instr. cluster housing.

The good news is that if you messed it up they are relatively cheap to replace: 62111459244 - about $9-10.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

I did find a washer and clip rolling around in there. Now I know where they came from!
It's my own fault for not studying the repair manual before digging in. I didn't think a
simple dash knob would throw me for a loop like that! Thanks for your help!

I found a bit of rust on one connection and the goretex dots were failing. I replaced
them with some from an old jacket. The gauges are warped but I hope everything works!
