Reducing RS Mirror Glass Vibration
« on: June 30, 2012, 07:56:54 PM »
1) Make sure that the mirror body is firmly seated on the mounting bracket.  If the three clips in the mirror are getting old and tired then you can replace them with new ones. The part number for those clips is 46631455047.

2) In order to deal with the vibrating mirror glass issue, BMW started adding four little foam columns behind the mirror glass in the later RS bikes.  The part number for one of those is  46632307607.

3) Add four ounces of wheel weights to the back of the mirror glass.  This more than doubles the weight of the mirror glass and should make it less prone to vibration.

This comes as a surprise to me, as my 1985 K100RS doesn't vibrate enough to bother the mirrors much.  Perhaps the increase in engine displacement raised the vibes as well. The foam bits seem like an unlikely solution to this problem.  Won't they prevent adjusting the mirror glass?

They're foam, not styrofoam.  The friction in the ball joint on the mirror post keeps the mirror where you adjust it.
