UPDATE: I have a feeling Frankenduck explained this but I misunderstood, was a simple procedure getting these wires out of the way. Unhooked the Oil Pressure Switch Cables under the bike (thought for some reason these were different wires because their direction was hidden by the Oil/Water pump cover, newbie move :tongue) can't quite fit the cables with the rubber sleeves through the Timing cover, oiled them up good but didn't want to force it. Was doing this so I could clean the cover but no luck, whatevs.
Trouble was, I made the mistake of NOT Gunking the engine thoroughly before removing the Timing Cover/radiator, then tediously had to clean the edges with Gunk and paper towel to avoid dirt getting into the gears and chain. This gave me time at least to examine and understand the inner workings of German engineering :mbird and from what I can tell everything looks to be in great shape. Timing chain and sprockets are tight, minor wear on the sprockets but I'm sure that's normal. I'll post pictures of the sprockets later.
Also while I've got her open, how important is a Cam Chain Tensioner Depresser?:
