n00b and Brick convert

Hello Everyone!

I'm Brian, I'm from the Detroit Metro area, I'm new to K bikes, and I'm already hooked. I started riding several years ago on a '73 Harley Sportster which is now one more mod (and maybe some electrical work) from being a full blown hand-(re)built chopper, but I've always liked the look of old BMW's, though I hadn't ridden any. When a friend of mine offered me a spectacular deal on his '85 K100 (which runs like a TOP  :2thumbup:) I jumped on it; literally. Before I rode away he offered to hold depositing the cash a week, in case I didn't like it as I came from Harley-Davidsons. Once I finally pulled it in the garage, after a few "detours" on the way home, I called him back and told him to put that money in the bank, he wasn't ever getting this bike back! So now I'm a convert to these amazing bricks and admittedly may never buy another Harley again... This bike makes me feel like a kid on a ten speed; albeit with much more torque, and better impulse control  :biggrin:

Anyway, I'm reading my way through all the excellent advice here and should have decent pics up soon enough.
I'm off to make up errands I need to run on my new/old Brick.

Ha, I see a 3 degree timing advance in your future.

Did you pick up you have to preload the shift lever yet ?

In all of the K bikes I've had I've never had to "preload the shift lever" on a single one.  :dunno  Pull in clutch, shift, let clutch out.

I've had zero issues with shifting. Sure, you need to mean it when you shift, but not as much as what I'm used to. An early seventies Harley will start eating the transmission in false neutral, which sounds as bad as it sounds... Appreciate the advice though.

Preloading is an automatic process/acquired skill. When I got my first K 75 in 1988, actually complained to dealer about downshifting roughness.

My Honda ST 1100 shifts like butter compared to the K boxes, especially while stopped.
