K75 no start

Here de symptoms........7 yr old Wesco battery still going good.  After running errands came back to bike, starter barely turned, then tach needle swung to 5k with no engine startup.  Needle also goes up and down with blinkers.  Can hear solenoid and pump.  Battery reads 12.5v. Headlight & dash bright with key on, but go out-dim when starter button pushed and tach needle rises.

I plan on checking connections, grounds, but suspect dirty starter & brushes.  Any guesses?

Actually, I think the bike is pissed at me cause I just put $1k down on a brand spanking new Ural Gear-up still on the boat from Russia. :yippee:   Maybe a nice bottle of wine and some pretty jewelry ???

Yes, voltage and cranking amps are very different.  Take the battery to an auto shop and get it load tested.  If that's not it then perhaps the ignition switch is getting flaky?
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

I don't think it's the battery, jumping yielded the same results.  I'll start checking connections and cleaning things then repost.  Thanks for the advice.

When my ignition switch started going out my tach and speedo needles would both shoot straight to the 5k rpm position as the engine died at speed. Exciting, but not something anyone wants to actually experience. While you have the tank off definitely give the ignition switch connector a good once-over, if you see your dash lights dim (way dim) when you hit the brakes with the key on, the connector or the inside of the switch is prone to getting dirty and giving a cranking no-start.

Also pull the handlebar cover off and pull the plastic cap off of the bottom of the ignition switch to see how the soldered terminals are holding up.
