The base rack of the Givi E181 is steel and mounts in the OEM tail rack holes. It's actually two parts, the K bike rack (steel) and the Givi base plate (plastic.) The nice thing about it is that the Givi base rack is that, since it's level, you can attach lots of different aftermarket cases to it or, in your case, some sort of bracket for supporting a backrest. (If you need a backrest then drop me a PM. I've got one.)
That's what I was thinking. If Brickhead's mount had the rack attached and was made of steel, that would save me from having to fabricate one (I enjoy doing that sort of thing, I just have too many irons in the fire at the moment). Then I could just attach the "hoop", mount the back-rest and put an aluminum plate on top. I have the mid-sized moto-fizz bag from Rider Wearhouse that I want to mount.
Thanks for the [back-rest] offer, but I have a back-rest off of the large Reynolds rack (I also have the Reynolds rack as a back-up, just thinking I could come up with something more compact and lighter). My youngest son and I are planning a trip to CO for July so the back-rest is a priority this summer.
We'll see if a K75RT, two-up (w/ camping gear) can climb Pike's Peak! (What could possibly go wrong?)
