Dear all,

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I have run into the same issue as the OP, Not only the fact BMW wants crazy money for a single gasket but also that even here in Europe the silly thing is on backorder till Christmas, I was thinking of making my own, but how? Cutting up beer cans and sandwiching the whole shebang with RTV will not work, I tried that before on an another bike. I could get a 1mm thick brass tube of a 41mm inside diameter and cut a slice, or I have a piece of a knitted wire mesh seal tape (that did not work too good either in the past).  Ed, would you mind telling me, what did you use for your gasket? Obviously I would not mind paying for it either but I'm so damn broke at the mo, I try to do this as cheaply as possible.

Thank you!

I would start with a piece of 1.5 dia x 1/32" wall brass tube if I could find it, so 1.5x1/8 and machine it. Beyond that trade secret not telling ...

Cost of the part is a donation to motobrick.com Shipping a 10x10x10 cm package Toronto to Hungary is ~12.00 CDN ground no tracking, ~20.00 air no tracking, ~55.00 air tracked.

Didn't you also need a starter button?

Hi Ed, thanks for coming back to me on this. I did want a starter button too, but then all the motobrick heavyweights chipped in with their requests, so I backed down quietly :) I glued the old button, that fell apart after two weeks, now I glued it again with an extra piece on top, that is holding on for now, but God only knows, for how long. I was going to drill the stem of the original button and drive in a tiny self taper with a wide spacer washer underneath the head holding the whole shebang together... It is frustrating and I'm always watching the button if it is still in one piece, so a replacement would be great alongside one of those Ed gaskets, but I don't want to be an arse asking for stuff cheaply and as I said, I'm f*cking broke (being a freelance press photographer in this country is ever so cool as long as you do the job free of charge, I could possibly buy 3 great K75's with the money owed to me by clients). If you could post the stuff the cheapest way and tell me, how to make a donation, I would be happy to wait for them to arrive (riding season is coming to a very sad end rather soon, so the bike will be off duty taken to bits, as I try to see, how does those splines look like, and where the oil in the weep hole is coming from...

How's the wrist BTW? I had a somewhat similar crash with my old bike and I had to go through court proceedings, as the idiotic woman sued ME for running me over (she lost the case but it was a royal pain in the butt).

Thanks!!

I was countersued for breaking a windshield with my head when I was thrown over the hood of a car after being struck by it from behind while its driver was drunk and I was riding a bicycle. In the end though, he paid and paid and paid but I still didn't become a brilliant pianist, in fact, I never learned to play the piano at all.

I'll need your address so send it by PM. Donating is via the red hot pipes above ... click.

Wrist is coming along. There'll be no suing with no-fault insurance, everything is covered, also there were a donkey-dump load of witnesses who, after I asked "Why didn't you look?" heard him say "Oh, I saw you ...". There are idiots, and fecking idjuts.  :giggles
