PAIN in the gass hole
« on: February 24, 2012, 08:35:19 PM »
Were all being fucKed by Iran, speculators and BIG oil on the price of petrol lately.

NO sanctions will enable Iran to become the nuclear powerhouse in the Mideast. (BAD)

Speculators raise the price on paper

BIG oil does NOT have to answer to speculation but does anyway in order to generate more profit.

Ha, blame Obama all you want, nothing he can do about the bullshit, contracted. (Bill O'Reilly)

TV tonight had a senator who tried to sponsor a bill that all oil drilled on American soil/offshore has to be sold in the USA. All the repubs shot it down.

Just wait till Memorial day rolls around. $6.00 - $9.00 per gallon or more may be the norm around the country.

bitch,bitch,bitch ____________ and more BITCH !

Chinese demand is playing a big role.  We're exporting more refined gas than ever.

If Dumbama didn't have such a hard-on for his green energy fantasy and promoted more drilling then speculators would drive the price down some.

Unfortunately, the price of petrol drives new technology.

BIG oil is like a drug dealer, they do NOT want us to become too independent.

Gas has been pretty flippin' expensive in Europe for quite a while now.  What new technology has that driven?

The evil BIG OIL of which you speak doesn't make an inordinate profit on a percentage basis.  But they do make a convenient scape goat I guess.

Hell, you have to "blame game" someone Duck. LOL   I repeat, BIG oil does NOT have follow speculation for pricing !

Trust me, the USA is going to power its personal transportation on natural gas shortly. Most of it drilled from the Marcellus shale deposit here in Pennsylvania. My home town is considered to be the Saudi Arabia of natural gas.

The NG fueling station is scheduled to be completed this summer. A few savvy folks have private filling stations at there houses. Takes a couple of hours though, usually an overnight deal to top the car off unlike a "quick fill" stop & go NG plaza.

Seriously thought of converting a K bike to run on NG.  Be a FUN project !

The gas taxes paid for the public transit in Europe. I get off the plane in Frankfurt, take a 200 mph train to Paris, get on the metro, which takes me to easy walking distance anywhere in the entire city.

The BMW we rented in Germany (320I) got ~33 mpg (on 6 dollar a gallon gas) at 100+ mph. It has nearly 200 hp from a Gasoline Direct Injection motor.

Big oil does reap enormous profits that are tied to high, speculated prices of oil. The higher prices make otherwise expensive oil drilling more profitable (oil shale/sand/deep water/etc)

In a free market, there is not going to be a way to control gas prices. Even in a strict, government controlled market, there is a limit to what they can do.

One issue is that the oil is America (as in the people's) property, but we give it to Oil companies for pocket change (we let them drill, or even pay them to drill), rather than charging them for what its worth, or drilling it ourselves. Norway puts its oil money into a Sovereign Wealth Fund, which is used to stabilize the country's finances.

A few stats, NG is roughly 32 cents a gallon to produce.

NG fueling station price is currently at $1.60 a gallon.

Thank you WMAX!  I usually ignore these threads because of opinionated posters, ignorance and or talk show brainwashing.  Not only do you ride a K75 but you had concise intelligent insight on the this mess. We coulda-shoulda taxed gasoline long ago to encourage conservation and alternatives (that would be political suicide) but instead subsidized giant SUV's until the situation got critical, then just pointed fingers.  We are basically idiots

Talk show brainwashing is kind of amazing. My uncle, who is very well educated, very intelligent (predicted the exact order of the securitized mortgage related bank failures), and used to be a UMW organizer, has become crazier (and farther right) than the tea party. Tons of misinformation, and spouting blatant lies he heard from Rush Lindbaugh. Bizarre.

Ya, Fox News channel is a trip. Swear, Rush is popping Oxy's while Glen Beck smokes crack offstage.

I'm all for "intelligent" taxing of petrol.

Amazing that the first Arab oil embargo was in 1973.

What has the USA learned in 39 years other than to build BIGGER SUV's ? Sad, we just do NOT get it.

Does anyone else here in motobricK sense price manipulation may be politically motivated ?

On the bright side, my GS gets almost 73 mpg if I don't honk on it.  :2thumbup:

friggin windy here in the Mid Atlantic, piloted the K 75 for a milk run this morning, damn near got blown off crossing the Stolz bridge.

One factoid I heard the other day is that there has been more domestic drilling in the last 3 years than in the previous 8.

I'm doing my part, signed a new drilling lease on our family's property in IL last year. It's split many ways though, pays for maybe 1 tank of refined stuff in a year.

But drilling here won't do squat for the gas prices, since the market for the product is world-wide and expanding.
The long term solution to paying more for gas is to use less of it.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Each time that it appears speculators are going to jump on oil (such as now) I've snatched up some energy issues. Within just the last few weeks these have picked up 8%. When it looks like oil speculators are losing interest, I bail out. Last year my little exercise picked up nearly $1k toward my total gas bill.
