1999 K1100LT O2 sensor?
« on: Today at 04:46:40 AM »
Hello all, I am in the process of modifying my bike and soon want to change the exhaust. I then realized that the K1100 has an O2 sensor so I'd have someone weld a bung into an aftermarket collector to accomodate for the sensor. However, when I went to check my bike today to my surprise there was no O2 sensor (or bung) in my exhaust where I expected it to be. Looking online, I found pictures of OEM K1100 exhausts with and without the bungs so I'm guessing some bikes came without an O2 sensor? Pics added for reference, you can see the sensor clearly on one, and on another there is nothing where the sensor would be (right behind the bracket). Mine looks to be the same as the one without the O2 sensor. I wasn't really able to find any information on this.

Here is my question: being a carburetted car owner I'm very new to FI. I was pretty convinced the Motronic 2.2 on my bike would need an O2 sensor to run properly. Does anyone know why some K1100s seem to come without one? I also thought there were 2 generations: pre-1994 and post-1994, but I've found OEM exhausts from 1996 with the sensor so I'm guessing that doesn't make the difference here. Is it a question of location? I am in the Netherlands.

My question is mostly one out of interest. I'll be pretty happy without the O2 sensor since that saves a lot of trouble getting the bung welded in on a new exhaust.

To the best of my knowledge, the O'2 sensor is only found on the US market bikes. I believe that the EU version allows for a manual O'2 trim adjustment if required/needed.
