Some genuine help please electrical
« on: July 05, 2024, 11:46:33 PM »
Hello All,
Haven't been here for a while got another K100 1984. Have had lots of fun sorting just ridiculous things out!
Where I'm stuck after a Speedo repair, new 2nd hand Speedo ect it just one and on.
Anyway trouble I'm having now is the choke light, oil pressure light and alternator charge light do not come on when starting the bike. I have tested the grounds at pin 13 and 19 on the bike side all good - at the white plug, I have switched power at pin 6 and continuous power at pin1. It's bizarre, on one start all work , next day nothing. It also looks like the Speedo may have stopped functioning as well.
Is there a common power or otherwise connection that combines the respective circuits? Can the flasher unit or the BMU have an effect on what's going on, brake light indicators horn ect all work fine. I'm at a total loss , been battling with ridiculous issues for over 2 months and thinking im at the end of enjoyment with this bike. I'm reasonably electrical savvy.
Does power need to go through the cluster for the alternator and chicken and oil lights to operate accordingly or is power supplied to the choke switch from the harness side ect.
Thank you

Yep.

Those three lights rely on switched power from pin 6. The bulb monitor light and neutral light for example also depend on power from pin 6, so if they work, it looks like the problem is inside the instrument cluster. The three lights you mentioned are grouped close together, so maybe you disturbed the power to them when you installed the Speedo.

If no lights that depend on pin 6 are working, hopefully the problem is just at the plug.

I think it helps if you have a coloured wiring diagram and think about the problem like a game of snakes and ladders.
