Fork travel
« on: June 19, 2024, 08:17:15 PM »
Ok Gentlemen, my 1990 has splines lubed , headlight relays and led headlight ( jury is still out on that one )  …. The forks; the bike was in an accident and the forks have been addressed before purchase. They have the “S” stamped on them and newish looking paint and seals. They measure 41.3. They have a lot of travel during normal use. I’m 150 lbs and I measured more than 2.5 ( closer to 3”)…the latter  under test braking. Florida has smooth roads. I will NEVER have a passenger. I will be checking fork oil for quantity .280 is the spec ( I will not strip the drain plug…hopefully. I was going to go straight to 15w. ..possibly blend with old thin oil if too stiff with 15…TIa

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Ok follow up on forks...280ml of fluid drained from left fork..right fork had whatever was left of the pint bottle the previous owner purchased... Probably less than 200ml. ok sooo even with the Honda SS fluid 280ml EACH FORK...the dive seems a bit much. I want a firmer ride on glass smooth Florida pavement. What are my fluid options?

What I've done is add 10ml to each side.

If that doesn't help then try another 10.

I installed Racetech cartridge emulators and single rate springs in my K75RT.  Got rid of a lot of dive and the bike rides a lot smoother on the shit roads of New York State.

For fluid I use is the cheapest Walmart ATF.  Works great and kept the cost down when I had four bikes.
