I fitted the RAM shock from Realm Engineering and I can highly recommend it. Well made, easily adjusted and looks good too.

If you get a RAM shock then be sure to tell them what your normal rider/passenger/luggage load will be. Their default is to put a spring on it for 2-up fully loaded riding. I use my K75 mostly for running errands with empty city cases or no luggage at all and the out-of-the-box spring was way too stiff. I had them send me a lighter spring for solo riding and it worked much better that way. I think there's also some choice in spring color too.

I'm considering a YSS from rubberchickenracing. Relatively inexpensive, made in Thailand shock. Pretty good reviews, and fully rebuildable.

I just bought a Progressive 465. So far I'm pretty happy with it. It's better than the Works shock I took off (although I don't know how old that shock was). Looks like its about the same price as the YSS. Based upon the reviews, I may have tried that one if I had known about it.

It really gets down to "you get what you pay for" IMHO. With the exception of the YSS I've ridden Ks with all of the shocks mentioned in this thread. My .02:

Progressive: If you can find the right price new (<$300) they're a decent shock and way better then a stock shock with 30 k on it.

RAM: Very nice deal for the $$$ and if you get the right spring it's a darned good shock.

Works: If you have a new/freshly rebuilt one then they are very good. Like the RAM, if you can get the "right" spring for your normal riding weight then you'll REALLY like it.

Ohlins: Heaven. Good luck finding one though. If you can find Ohlins for less than $400 then buy it.

Just to lower the seat a little if you're vertically challenged. The shorter shock and sliding the fork tubes up the triple trees a half inch makes a noticeable difference without any detrimental effects.

Picked up a YSS this spring and have now put about 5k on it.

The price- $380 us including shipping.

Springs set to rider weight, 60 clicks of adjustment and ,from what I was told by the sales rep, the reason why they look like a Wilbers with a greater range of adjustment is that there is a former key Wiburs individual who owns YSS. I would be more skeptical of the sales rep's statement if it weren't for the fact that the shock feels like a better Wilburs for about half the price.

The only negative I've noticed so far is that I can now really feel how much my front suspension
needs attention (Progessive springs maybe?).

About three years ago I replace the OEM shock on an R100GS with a YSS unit. It began to leak oil after 3K (paved road) miles.
Perhaps they have tighten the QC standards since my shock was manufactured.

I went with the YSS. I think it's a step up from a Progressive or a Works performance. at a lower cost. Took a little tweaking to get it set right for my riding style. Seems that even with specifics of your weight and riding most companies set them for 2 up full loaded or at a race set-up. 2000 miles since install and I'm very pleased.

Did they warranty the Shock?

Did you have them rebuild/fix it?

Not trying to badger you, am actually curious as to what YSS was like to deal with when there was a problem. If my shock ever gives me a problem it would be nice to know what to possibly expect.

I just bought a RAM shock, $386 from GB, got here in three days, looks like a great product and based on Duckers advice, it should be a great shock. I did give them my riding style and weight. They are very responsive to e-mails. I would recommend so far.

Hi Freelancer, Sorry, but I'm unable to give you much help in what to expect from the distributor here in the US. Although the shock began to leak very early on in it's life on my bike, it was a year or more, time-wise. I never contacted the distributor and complained; I sold the motorcycle. However, I've learned that others have had this same issue, and in fact a friend reported that two shocks showed signs of leaking in their boxes in the shop, even prior to them ever being mounted. I had initially believed my experience was an "out-lier" but after hearing Steve's report, I thought it probably was not so uncommon. I therefore decided I'd post my experience for others to take into consideration. After all, that is not an inexpensive part. Good luck with yours. In all likelihood the factory has addressed the QC problems by now.

Thanks for the info. I think that YSS may have gotten the issues you listed sorted out.
I will keep posting how mine is performing/holding up and how YSS customer service is if I have any issues.
Hopefully, I will be a pleased test pilot/rider rather than a crash test dummy.

Btw, I got this shock from a performance parts place out of New Jersey.
The owner seemed knowledgeable and was polite. He has a thick german accent that may take some getting used to, though.
I will post up the store info for anyone interested.

I had the Ram CM325 (25mm shorter than stock) shock from Realm Engineering installed and am loving it. Great ride, sprung to my weight, and now (given my 30 in inseem) I can put both heels down when I'm at a stop! Honestly feels like a whole new ride! The difference in the ride has really impressed me. Shock arrive in 3 days and even with the less favorable exchange rate now it was still less expensive than a new Progressive. :2thumbup:

A word about YSS. I got mine from http://www.epmperf.com/]EPM [url]http://www.epmperf.com/[/url] almost 2 years ago. Set up is spot on. About a month ago I saw it was leaking. Sent an email and no problem full warranty repair. Great customer service. Don't know about other vendors but EPM did a great job.

Update;

My YSS started leaking when it was about a year old. Great customer service, sent it back and it was quickly returned. 2 year warranty.
