Alternator voltage regulator

I have a spare regulator from my Volvo parts and it looks exactly the same, except it has a capacitor soldered across two points.  My stock regulator is at .2, while the Volvo one is .395.   Is it safe to assume that I can unsolder the cap and use the Volvo one?

I wouldn't say they look exactly the same, but be bold and let us know how it works out.

One unimpeachable source indicated Volvo regulator  244332 is a sub.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the capacitor on the Volvo regulator is for noise suppression and won't affect alternator performance running the electrical system.

If the limb breaks, your Brick will still be charging the battery.     Seriously though, give it a try, Lbx. A good outcome could help others. Any legible numbers on it?

No numbers that I see.  I’m pretty sure I pulled this from a Volvo 240 out of a junkyard, and I’m pretty sure the 740/940 has the same alternator.

I’d be wary of the capacitor because of its age. It could be defective. I’d see if you can remove it unless you can test it.

For those of us not hip to electronic patois, cap refers to the capacitor indicated in Reply #7.
