STARTER SPRAG FAILURE

I just bought a 1987 K100LT, started to do some basic maintenance and found metal chunks in my oil pan.
I bore scoped the motor and found no damage to any critical components however, I did find more metal near the starter sprag.  I removed the bell housing and found that my issue was the bearings on the sprag shaft and in the block have disappeared. 

I searched every manual I could find and scoured these forums for hours and have found no reference to find a part number to repair this issue.

My question is does anyone know what parts/part numbers I need to get my brick back on the road? Thank you for your time and apologies if this is obvious, I’m new to the platform and an unfamiliar with the intricacies at this point.

Welcome!  I checked the parts lists at MaxBMW and, yes, for some reason those bearings are not in the parts list, heck, they're not even shown as N/A. 

But, not to be deterred, take the shaft and the intermediate case along with the old bearing parts(were you able to find any of the rollers?) to a bearing supply house.  If you can get some measurements it may help, but the countermen I have dealt with over the years are pretty damn good at figuring out what you need.  Slip the guy $5 and thank him when you're done, he has saved you big time and you may have to go back for more parts. 

BTW, these places are good sources for your seals and o-rings as well as bearings.  I never buy those parts from BMW.

I just spent some time meandering through the MaxBMW parts Fiche for your bike.

In their infinite wisdom, the folks at BMW show the bearing you need in a different place.  If you go to MaxBMW look for the page "Engine Block Mounting Parts".  Your part is #15 "Needle Sleeve 16x22x16".  The part number is 11 11 1 460 360 and will cost you $10.15.  Because Max is charging for shipping on orders less than $100, I would still go to a local bearing house.  At least you now have a bearing size.  I would still take the shaft and the housing just to be absolutely sure.

BTW, as long as you are there at the bearing shop, pick up the rear main seal and the clutch o-ring.  At the age of your bike, they are ripe for replacement.  You can also get a couple o-rings for the oil filter cover as well.

That is true, Duck, but a local bearing shop will have the parts when you need them, and probably at a slightly lower price.  No need to have to wait for a shipment from the Fatherland.

I get my parts from non-official BMW sources whenever possible.  It's a matter of time and money.

It depends upon where you live. I live in the boonies now. The nearest "big city" (population 11K LOL) is 35 miles away. It would cost me more in gas than the BMW price of that bearing to drive my car there and back. Not to mention the hour and a half of driving.

I also avoid overpriced BMW parts too. EBC brake pads, motobins brake lines, filters, etc....
