Hey folks, long time listener, first time caller here.
I bought a non-op '93 k75 with 44,xxx in March, and have been plugging away at getting it going, or trying to. Hitting some bumps in the process and really starting to wonder about sunk costs, lemons etc etc. It starts now, shifts smoothly. Still need brakes rebuilt and tires.
And....
It sat with bad gas, so I've replaced ALL the melted tank innards and the gummed up fuel injectors where the gas had been dripping and seeped past o rings, and patched the lower left hand seam with JB weld's gas tank specific product. I thinned it with acetone to make application easier. Scraped paint and patched from the outside too. It's leaking still, though more slowly. Do folks have experience/advice with the POR-15 product? Others? Do I need to try and get the jb weld out somehow before using that?
Also, PO had green coolant in there so I used prestone's cooling system cleaning product. I mixed the product less concentrated than recommended because the cooling system is so small, but I also left it in there for for longer than recommended (work injury prevented the wrenching I was hoping for!) On my test drive yesterday I noticed steamy exhaust. Are there any other causes for that other than the head gasket? Please? What checks do I need to do? I'm going to do a compression test today.
I'm already $2k+ in, and rethinking a lot of my choices. Trying not to do something rash like buy another and hawk this one. But maybe putting more money in this one is rash. Hard tellin. ANY advice is appreciated.
