New to Flying Bricks and BMW. 1990 K75RT

Hello all, my name is Chris and I just got myself a brand new(to me) K 75 RT 1900 model.  I am new to BMWs but me and my best friend had this crazy idea of buying bikes in Seattle, WA and riding them all the way back to Texas together.  I found this bike that fit the budget and seems like it will be a great ride back.  As I learn more about them they seem to be great little bikes and should be a blast to ride down to Texas.

I am including some pics from the Craigslist listing and after my buddy picked them up and cleaned the bike in Washington.  The R100RT is his bike he is going to ride back to Texas. 

If there are any cool mods or recommendations for the trip please let us know.  We plan to fly back to Seattle in a couple weeks and start the 2500 mile ride back to Texas.

Radial tires and cruise control would make a 2,500 mile ride much better.

Where is that hangar?

Bikes are being stored south of Seattle till we can get back up there and ride them down here in a couple weeks.

Welcome! Enjoy the trip. Start a thread in the Photographic Ride Reports section and post your photos and descriptions of the trip into it.

Here is a list of things you've probably already done.
Changed the coolant.
Changed the oil filter.
Changed the oil.
Removed the fuel tank cap assembly then changed the fuel filter.
Inspected the fuel tank interior and fuel lines.

Here's one mod that will help keep your legs cooler. Where you're headed, you'll need it.
Install a johnny blanket.

Bleed the brakes (use DOT 4 fluid only) and check the brake pads.

The "glove" boxes in the RT fairing are great places to carry granola bars and all sorts of snacks.

If you need the transmission input splines lubed I know someone fairly close to Seattle who will do it for $200 and a fifth of Crown Royal.

Great maintenance ideas listed above.

For your convenience: get the hard-sided luggage that mounts to the brackets. You have an enormous trunk but for an extended trip you'll want tragkorbs as well (hard sided).

They can often be found on ebay and elsewhere.

You probably want to get one that matches the right side one.

From the factory, 1990 probably came with Gen 2 cases but it may have Gen 3.
