18 x 4.5 Wheel in K100
« on: December 04, 2011, 06:47:39 PM »
I checked out putting a 18 x 4.5 3 spoke wheek into a K100 and came to the conclusion that it could not be done. However several guys here said it can be done and did it but the wheel is of center and that can be seen by aligning the center of the wheel and rear fender. They claim it is OK but having quite some experience in building frames for race bikes I know different.  Am I right in that they are not center and that you need to use the paralever setup to fix that problem.

I've heard (but haven't tried it) that you need to install a 4V center stand and that it will clear the mono swing arm.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

The one guy that has done it had to even mod the center stand to get wheel clearance. He claims it handles OK but from experience I would say it would fall into a righthand corner and have to be really pushed into a left.  What I am looking at is maybe you have to put a paralever in because the offset is different to the monolever.
I can try it on my bikes I have but it means taking the wheels out of each one and I am basicly lazy so I just asked here first.

paralever in because the offset is different to the monolever.

I've paralevered a couple of K75s and have found that not to be the case. (never measured it but the handling seems to remain neutral) To the best of my knowledge the center of the wheel is in the same place for both mono and para.
