Fuel pump, splashing sound inside tank, bike not starting?
« on: February 06, 2021, 07:03:50 PM »

I installed a new fuel pump and I hear the gas being recirculated and splashing inside the tank? Any posts on this problem.
I have tested the line inside the tank to the fuel injectors and a is clear. There was old gas the went bad and that’s why I had to change the pump, it quit. I also could use info on removing and cleaning the injectors.
Thanks

I'd look in the tank to see if everything looks normal. If half full you should see fuel dribbling from the top and splashing on the fuel surface,  that's normal.

I'd check for spark at the plugs,  and if they're wet.

Make sure there is no fuel leaking at the hose connections to the fuel filter in the tank when the pump is running.  You would not be the first to have that problem.

Daveson,

If his '85 is like mine, the fuel returns in the floor of the tank, not through the burrito as in the later models.

Thanks alabrew I forgot about that. The changeover was in 85 cause mines the later version (November 85) but yep I think r1100s has the earlier one. Worth a look inside.

I see you also have a high Fuel pressure thread, maybe the extra pressure popped one of the hoses off.
